We arrived in Yogyakarta on Thursday after a series of bus and train journeys. We’d stayed in some of the worst places so far during the previous week, and this combined with our out-of-rhythm sleeping habits and a long time spent of trains meant we were desperate for a bit of comfort, which came in the form of Fortune Fest Hotel. We spent the entire first day sleeping and watching television (bliss!) then visited Borobudur temple on the second. It is said to be the world’s largest Buddhist temple but it was actually very unimpressive! It was a six hour round trip and as tourists we have to pay over ten times the admission fee of locals which seems excessive. The temple’s carvings of Buddhas were nice… and we bought ourselves some matching hats… but that’s all I have to say about really.
